Infrared radiant heat is absorbed by human tissue in 4-7 cm depth, which leads to intensive sweating. Due to this, the IR sauna cause close to 3 times more sweating to the user compared to traditional saunas. The temperature in the IR sauna is between 45-60 degrees c, compared to 80-120 degrees in a traditional one. Therefore the sauna can also appeal to older individuals.

The radiant heat from the IR sauna heats the body directly, and not through the hot air around the body. This causes and artificial fever of around 40 degrees c in the skin, which makes it effective while on a diet. The body produces more sweat, increases blood flow, and burns more calories. The calorie consumption in an IR sauna reflects around twice as much as to jogging during the same amount of time. In 30 minutes the body will burn around 600 kcal, which in weight terms equals to around 100 grams.
The heat, which pushes deep into the body, is especially suitable for persons with joint- or muscle pain, skin problems etc. Compared to a traditional sauna, where 80% of the energy goes to heating up the air, and 20% towards the body, the circumstance is reversed with the IR sauna.
